This project consists of a design for a reception area with a cloakroom, a cafe with a kitchen and a bookshop for the art centre and former brewery Wielemans.

First, we decided to keep the original architectural elements such as the beer vats and the original decorated tiles on the floor. Then, we emerged all the new volumes from the floor and covered them with tiles with similar colours to the existing ones. The result creates a new topography in the open space with a high ceiling and invites the visitor to walk around and discover these new islands, in the same way they can walk around the preserved beer vats.

The reception desk and the bookshop are 75cm high, the bar is 110 cm high and the cloakroom is 200 cm high. They create stimulating scenarios or obstacles, nooks and crannies where one can hide, and break up the empty space.
