Identity in the city
As a part of UNESCO Creative Cities Network, Kobe combines cul- ture and tradition from around the world. The city is devoted to cre- ative urban development that promotes arts. IMK shop is located in the Chuo Ward of Kobe – the commercial and entertainment centre of the city with a large international community.
The building has a plain white facade. It is conventionally clean. The accent of the design is brought behind the glazed openings. The Facade Skin acts as a backdrop to the front of the shop with the two artworks. One can see the inside of the shop through the skin. A big illuminated shop sign floats on top of the canopy in a way which it is visible from both sides of the street.
Atmosphere in the shop
The space inside the shop is simple, with an open layout on two levels and a void around the stairs. The existing interior design is clean and ordinary, without any strong link to IM design vision.
The project consists in showing IM collection within a serene and stimulating atmosphere, in the same way people connect to a work of art in a gallery or a museum. Clothes and accessories have neutral background. Pedestals are set up to show accessories. The void around the stairs is becoming a unique exhibition space for a special collection. The tone of the shop is created more by the texture of the materials than by the paint.
